A pleasant surprise

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all staying warm out there. It's currently 3 degrees in Concord. I actually got to go snow skiing for the first time this past weekend which was awesome. The mountains here are a far cry from Mad River Mountain or Snow Trails.

Ethan has done great with the recovery from his heart surgery. He only stayed in the cardiac NICU for 3 days. The follow up echocardiogram looked great. We had a little set back two days ago as Ethan picked up a bacterial infection. He's on an IV, and antibiotics right now and working to get healthy again.

The really good news is they did another esophagram on Thursday with the intent of deciding how best to correct the out pouching of his esophagus. This correction would most certainly be another all day surgery, another scar, and even further delayed recovery. When the results of the test came back they found that the out pouching had completely disappeared. They can't really explain it, but it's very good news for his continued recovery. Thank God for that. They will continue to work with him on his breathing, and are telling us now he may be home finally by mid February.

Kevin is still doing great. He was supposed to get a circumcision last Wednesday, but the blizzard here cancelled his appointment. When I told Ethan that Kevin was going into surgery he got a BIG smile on his face. Kevin has developed such a great personality, very happy and he laughs a lot.

Carol is still here until Thursday. We've definitely appreciate her help. She, Tina, and I are planning on going skiing tomorrow night while Kristen watches Kevin.

I'll keep everyone posted on Ethan's progress.

Much love,

Ryan, Tina, Ethan, and Kevin
