I heard a great quote tonight "life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about dancing in the rain." I know now it's a pretty famous quote, but I heard it for the first time tonight listening to Jack Lengyel of We Are Marshall fame. Needless to say, the words hit me like a brick. I told Tina about it afterwards, and she was quick to point out dancing in the rain is one thing. Dancing through a hurricane is quite another. I have to admit, it's a valid point. Our family drama has been extensively documented on this blog, and by all of us directly involved.
Ethan's exhausting trip took a step forward last Thursday as he was transfered from Children's Boston to Franciscan Children's Hospital in Brighton, MA. The goal of the transfer is to rehab Ethan and get him home. Our plan is to work on getting him off of any vent support at night, continue to gain weight (he's broke 12 lbs finally!), and work on his eating and leg strength.
This is a good step forward, and a big step towards coming home. We are trying to be down with him as much as possible, both to learn and to spend more time with him. The biggest drawback to Franciscan is the funding and nursing staff is greatly reduced compared to Children's. We have learned through our experiences that we need to stay on top of the medical professionals to ensure Ethan's getting the best quality care.
I'll keep you updated on his progress. Thanks for all of the support. On days when the hurricane winds are blowing, you help keep us dancing.
Much love,
Ryan, Tina, Ethan, and Kevin
