Hey everyone,
In just under 4 hours now I should get to great my family and welcome them to New England! Ethan, Kevin, and Tina are going to be flying out by medical jet this morning from Columbus. I will pick them up in Bedford, MA and from there Kevin, Tina, and I will follow Ethan's transport down to Children's Hospital - Boston. We decided not to continue to wait for the appeals process from the insurance company to bring our family back together. We can still file a secondary appeal, and if that fails we can work with hospital billing department to work out a payment plan.
In the end we decided that Children's Boston was the best place for Ethan to be due to his heart condition which will need surgery in the next couple of months. They are the top rated hospital by US News and World Report with regards to the pediatric cardiology. Also, with the holidays quickly approaching, we knew our family separation anxiety was going going to be exacerbated if we couldn't all be together.
Right now it's still a little unreal to believe that they will be out here today. I'm trying to cautiously optimistic at this point, and hope to remain so until I see them getting off the plane.
An important side note. Ethan was waiting on a new (larger) trach to come in this week. It did so yesterday and they wanted to get that in before transport to help him breath. The problem was the one they ordered was too long, so when they put it in he struggled worse to breath. They decided to put the old trach back in, and deemed him medically well enough for the transport. We are very grateful to everyone at Nationwide Children's, especially nurse Sharon and Dr. King who were incredible. I am excited though to have some new sets of eyes look at his situation, and to get an ENT consult this time as well.
Please keep us in your prayers today, and hopefully I'll be able to report next time that everyone is safe and we are all in our new home in New England!
Much love,
Ryan, Tina, Ethan, and Kevin
